The 38th Spoleto Festival USA kicked off on Friday, May 23, in front of City Hall in Charleston.
The annual Sand Sculpting Competition saw patriotism winning the highest honor, Best of Show. Charleston residents Stephen, Joshua, Pamela and Sarah Bienkoski recreated the famous image of the raising of the American flag at Iwo Jima. Winning sculptures in other categories depicted scenery from "Game of Thrones" and "Despicable Me."
WindWalkers is an equine therapy center in Carbondale, Colorado. An exciting new project, a sensory trail, will heighten the facility's abilities to serve its riders.

St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church celebrated the 100-year anniversary of its building on July 26 and 27 by hosting a festival featuring food, dancing and other live entertainment. Parishioner Patricia Burak describes the church as a means of preserving Ukrainian culture.
